Special Election Set for District 7 Following Councillor Hilton's Resignation
Yarmouth, NS โ On December 9, 2024, Nicholas Hilton officially resigned from his position as Councillor for District 7 after being confirmed as the elected Member of the Legislative Assembly for Yarmouth (Riding 55). Following his resignation, the Municipal Elections Act (MEA) requires a special election to fill the vacant seat.
In accordance with the Municipal Elections Act (MEA), Council has called a Special Election for Saturday, March 1, 2025. Nomination Day is Tuesday, February 4, 2025. Details regarding nomination packages and appointments for filing a nomination will be made available early in January.
Linda Power, who served as Assistant Returning Officer during the October General Municipal Election, has been appointed as Returning Officer for the Special Election.
Council is committed to a smooth transition and in compliance with the MEA.
Approximately 1100 electors live in District 7, which includes the communities of Chebogue, Rockville, Kellyโs Cove, Sand Beach parts of Arcadia, Brooklyn, and Greenville.
