Yarmouth International Airport and Spiri Robotics Enter Into 5 Year Agreement Enabling UAV Research and Development at the Airport
The Board of Directors of the Yarmouth International Airport Corporation (call sign "CYQI") and Spiri Robotics, Inc. ("Spiri") are pleased to announce their 5-year agreement governing Spiri's use of the airport for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) research, testing, and development. The agreement, which extends until March 31, 2029, enables Spiri to lease and use portions of the airport for UAV test flights and other UAV-related research and development. Pursuant to the agreement, Spiri will coordinate its UAV operations with CYQI's normal operations and obtain advance approval from CYQI and other relevant authorities for Spiri's operations.
“The Board of Directors of the Yarmouth International Airport Corp (YIAC) is very pleased to welcome Spiri Robotics, Inc. as a tenant of our airport facility,” said the Yarmouth International Airport Chair, John Cunningham. “The Yarmouth airport has the resources and unique positioning to support the aerospace/aeronautics industry, including research and development, pre-commercial testing, and full commercialization. Spiri recognizes this asset and has seized on the opportunity to form a business relationship with YIAC. We are excited to be a supporter of and a partner in their endeavours and look forward to a mutually prosperous future.”

Economic Impact Study Reveals Importance of the Port of Yarmouth
The Yarmouth Area Industrial Commission recently executed an Economic Impact Study to gain a better understanding of the Port of Yarmouth’s impact and importance to our local and regional economy. The findings showed what we have long known: the port plays a key role in supporting our local economy and creating jobs for locals.
The Port of Yarmouth is one of three divested, independent ports in the Tri-County region, and has been jointly owned by the Town of Yarmouth, Municipality of the District of Yarmouth, and Municipality of the District of Argyle for the past 13 years. It is a key hub for the fishing industry in Southwest Nova Scotia, home to one of the world’s largest lobster fishing grounds.
Commission Chair, Guy Surette, says the report was an eye-opener for the Board. “It seems that we have been taking the importance of this community asset for granted, not truly appreciating the value and contribution that the Port of Yarmouth makes to the area.”

The Town and Municipality of the District of Yarmouth are excited to announce their newest partnership, collaborating as the sole Presenting Partner of the Congrès mondial acadien 2024 (CMA 2024). This collaboration is the only sponsorship partnership of its kind for CMA 2024 and includes a combined financial contribution of $150,000 for the event.
Together with the CMA, the Town and Municipality of Yarmouth aim to promote, celebrate and preserve Acadian culture in the local community, Southwest Nova Scotia, and on a global scale. This unique partnership goes beyond the execution of CMA 2024. It aims to leave a lasting legacy by promoting cultural, economic and tourism development throughout the entire region.
"We are honoured to be able to support our friends and neighbours in the Municipalities of Argyle and Clare as they bring the CMA 2024 to the region,” says Pam Mood, Mayor of Yarmouth, and John Cunningham, Warden of the Municipality of Yarmouth. “This event is huge for all of Southwest Nova Scotia and will be of great benefit culturally and economically. Our area has so much to offer, beginning with our top-notch hospitality, and we are excited to share all that we have with visitors and locals alike! Working together will help ensure the success of this iconic event to celebrate the strong Acadian roots of this region."

Coloured Garbage Bags Will Not Be Accepted Starting April 1st (2)
Coloured Garbage Bags Will Not Be Accepted Starting April 1st
Beginning April 1, 2024, solid colour garbage bags will be rejected at the curb and transfer stations. While Waste Check adopted a clear bag program for garbage in 2007, the use of one solid-coloured bag per residence was previously allowed. However, after April 1st, 2024, only clear bags with no colour will be accepted in the Municipalities of Argyle, Clare, Digby, Yarmouth, and the Town of Digby and Yarmouth.
The switch to only accepting clear bags reflects the importance of easily identifying hazards and ensuring that residents are sorting their waste properly.
