Municipality of Yarmouth Approves 2025–2026 Operating Budget; Holds the Tax Rate
Hebron, Nova Scotia – May 21, 2025 — The Municipality of Yarmouth has approved its 2025–2026 Operating Budget, totaling $18,127,843 in expenditures. With projected revenues of $18,137,290—including $15.2 million from taxation and nearly $2.9 million from non-tax sources—the Municipality has presented a balanced and forward-thinking budget that maintains essential services while holding the residential and commercial tax rates for a sixth consecutive year.
Despite facing unprecedented cost pressures, Council has maintained its key priorities, without passing additional financial burden onto residents. “We are proud to deliver a stable, responsible budget that protects the services our residents rely on most—without increasing the tax rate,” said Warden John Cunningham. “This budget reflects our commitment to wise stewardship, public safety, and a sustainable future for the Municipality of Yarmouth.”
Key highlights of the 2025–2026 budget include:
- Protective Services ($4.23 million): A significant increase driven by the addition of two new RCMP officer positions, strengthening law enforcement and enhancing public safety across the municipality.
- Environmental Health ($2.14 million): Continued investment in solid waste management and environmental initiatives that support healthy communities.
- Education and Community Grants: Sustained support for education, local organizations, and community development through targeted grants.
This budget continues to reflect the values of accountability and transparency while enabling the Municipality to plan for growth, improve infrastructure, and support residents through strong municipal services.
