MUNICIPALITY OF THE DISTRICT OF YARMOUTH APPROVES 2026/2027 OPERATING BUDGET
Hebron, Nova Scotia – May 27, 2026 — The Municipality of the District of Yarmouth has approved its 2026–2027 Operating Budget, totaling $19,272,568 in expenditures. With projected revenues of $19,290,032 — including $16.4 million from taxation and nearly $2.9 million from non-tax sources — the Municipality has presented a balanced and forward-thinking budget that maintains essential services for residents across the district.
Despite continued cost pressures facing municipalities across Nova Scotia, Council has remained focused on delivering high-quality services while maintaining long-term fiscal responsibility. "This budget reflects our ongoing commitment to the residents of the Municipality of the District of Yarmouth — ensuring that the services they depend on are well-funded, well-managed, and built to last," said Warden John Cunningham. "We are proud to present a responsible, balanced budget that positions our community for a strong and sustainable future."
Key highlights of the 2026–2027 budget include:
- Protective Services ($4.45 million): Continued investment in fire protection, emergency measures, and building inspections to keep residents and communities safe.
- Fiscal Services & Reserves ($6.59 million): Responsible transfers to reserves and long-term funds, ensuring the Municipality's financial health for years to come.
- Transportation & Public Works ($1.38 million): Sustained funding for road maintenance, street lighting, and public works infrastructure across the district.
- Environmental Health Services ($1.82 million): Continued investment in sewage collection and disposal to support healthy, sustainable communities.
- Recreation & Culture ($1.16 million): Ongoing support for recreational programming and cultural heritage initiatives that enrich quality of life for all residents.
This budget continues to reflect the Municipality's values of accountability, transparency, and service excellence — enabling the Municipality of Yarmouth to plan for growth, invest in infrastructure, and support residents through strong municipal services.
2026–2027 Tax Rates
- Residential and Resource Tax Rate - $1.1925 per $100 of assessment
- Commercial Tax Rate - $2.1825 per $100 of assessment
- Special Assessment / Sewer - $91.54 per equivalent unit per quarter
