Committee Descriptions & Members
There are generally two types of voting members for each committee or board, which are Councillors and citizen representatives. Citizen Representatives are volunteer community members within the Municipality who are appointed by Council.
Accessibility Advisory Committee
The Accessibility Advisory Committee advises and assists Municipal Council in promoting and facilitating a barrier-free Municipality for citizens of all abilities. Audit Committee
The audit committee improves the credibility of financial reporting, the independence of external auditors, and increases the reliability of financial reporting. The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee advises and assists Municipal Council in promoting and celebrating our diverse community. Heritage Advisory Committee
The Municipality of Yarmouth recognizes the importance of protecting heritage properties within the municipality. Some of the responsibilities of the Heritage Advisory Committee are to evaluate applications made to register a property as a Municipal Heritage Property, to advise on applications to substantially alter or demolish heritage properties in the municipality, and to recommend that a property be placed in the Municipal Registry. pdf Municipality of Yarmouth Heritage Advisory Committee Terms of Reference .

Joint Police Advisory Committee
The Joint Police Advisory Committee advises the Municipalities of Yarmouth and Argyle on the enforcement of the law, the maintenance of law and order, and the prevention of crime. Its role is to:
- Determine, in consultation with Councils, priorities, objectives and goals respecting police services in the two municipalities.
- Act as a liaison between the community and the Yarmouth Rural Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
The Joint Police Advisory Committee meets quarterly.

Mariners Centre Expansion Board
The Mariners Centre Expansion Board oversees the growth and development of the Mariners Centre. It reviews proposals, provides guidance, and approves expansion projects, ensuring they align with the Centre's long-term goals.

Mariners Centre Management Board
The Mariners Centre Management Board is responsible for creating strategic decisions for the Mariners Centre, approving budgets, accepting financial statements, giving direction to the CEO, entering into and re-negotiating agreements with third parties, and much more.

Planning Advisory Committee
The Planning Advisory Committee (PAC) provides advice and recommendations to Council in the preparation, amendment or revision of planning strategies, land-use-by-laws, zonings, subdivision by-laws, and on general land use matters. These are documents that outline council's vision for where, when and how the municipality will grow and develop, while the by-laws identify and enforce that vision.
The PAC normally meets on the third Tuesday evening of the month, and the agenda and minutes can be found on our website. These meetings are open to the public.

Yarmouth and Acadian Shores Tourism Association
The Yarmouth and Acadian Shores Tourism Association (YASTA) is the destination marketing organization for the tourism region of Yarmouth and Acadian Shores.
The organization is a not-for-profit partnership of the three municipalities in Yarmouth County and the Marketing and Promotions Levy Advisory Committee. YASTA works to market the region as a tourism destination and develop new tourism products that encourage visitors to visit. There are twelve regional representatives on the board of directors that are appointed by the partners. The board has one elected official from each municipality and two tourism representatives, for a total of three seats per partner.

Yarmouth International Airport Corporation
The Yarmouth International Airport Corporation is a municipal corporation responsible for all aspects of the development of the Yarmouth International Airport (CYQI). The Municipality of Yarmouth partners with the Municipality of Argyle and the Town of Yarmouth to form and support the corporation.

Yarmouth Recreation Advisory Committee
The Yarmouth Recreation Committee is responsible for recreational programming and services for the Town of Yarmouth and the Municipality of Yarmouth. The committee is made of Councillors, staff and community representatives from each municipal unit. The committee's role is defined as follows:
- To provide recreational services and/or programs for the residents of the Town and Municipality in accordance with approved policies.
- Provide direction and receive recommendations from the staff relating to the recreational programs, facilities, services and activities.
- The Yarmouth Recreation Committee meets the first Wednesday of every other month at 5:30 pm in the Municipality or Town of Yarmouth.

Councillor Loren Cushing
Councillor Loren Cushing has been serving District 6 since 2016. Loren was born and raised in Pembroke and has lived there his entire life. He grew up on a dairy farm but pursued a career in the fishing industry where he still has close ties. He established a landscape business in the late 1970’s until 1991 at which time he began a 17 year career working for Municipal Government. In 2009 he took a two year course at Nova Scotia Community College earning a Diploma in Business Administration. He began a project and property management business which he still operates today.
When asked why he wanted to run for Municipal Council again, Loren stated that in the past term he had addressed a number of concerns and needs of the residents of District 6 and there are more issues to be addressed in the district as well within the municipality.
Councillor Loren Cushing participates on several boards and committees.

Deputy Warden Trevor Cunningham
Deputy Warden Trevor Cunningham has been serving District 5 since 2008. Before his appointment to Municipal Council for the District of Yarmouth, Trevor served on Council for Clarks Harbour. Trevor grew up in Clarks Harbour and spent many summers working with fish and lobster processing companies. Now, Trevor is a teacher and an experienced educational administrator and currently manages Home Education for the province.
Trevor now resides in Dayton with his wife Leslie and their three children. Trevor and his family are actively involved in their community, with the family participating in many sporting and recreational events.
When asked why Trevor decided to reoffer for Municipal Council in 2024, he stated that it is so he can fulfill his commitment to move the Municipality of the District of Yarmouth forward with the help of our community, municipal, provincial and federal partners.
Deputy Warden Trevor Cunningham participates on several boards and committees.
